In Universal Access we underpin all our solutions and consultancy through the principles and goals of Universal Design. By adopting a Universal Design approach your organisation can be accessed, understood and used to the greatest extent possible by all people regardless of their age, size, ability or disability. If your organisation is accessible, usable, convenient and a pleasure to use, everyone benefits.
8 Goals of Universal Design
The IDEA Center developed the Goals of Universal Design© to define the outcomes of Universal Design practice in ways that can be measured, linked to existing bodies of knowledge, and applied to all design domains within the constraints of existing resources.
Body Fit
Accommodating a wide range of body sizes and abilities
Comfort
Keeping demands within desirable limits of body function and perception
Awareness
Ensuring that critical information for use is easily perceived
Understanding
Making methods of operation and use intuitive, clear and unambiguous
Wellness
Contributing to health promotion, avoidance of disease and protection from hazards
Social Integration
Treating all groups with dignity and respect
Personalisation
Incorporating opportunities for choice and the expression of individual preferences.
Cultural Appropriateness
Respecting and reinforcing cultural values, and the social and environmental contexts of any design project.
Universal design is a design process that enables and empowers a diverse population by improving human performance, health and wellness, and social participation. UD reduces stigma and provides benefits for all users.

An organisation that adopts a universal design approach results in a person-centred organisation.
